Karan Johar surprised by IIFA honour, touches Shah Rukh Khan’s feet, hugs him

Filmmaker Karan Johar was pleasantly surprised when he was honoured at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) on September 28, Saturday. He received the award for his contribution to Indian cinema. A video from the awards night showed him looking shocked as his name was announced on stage by Shah Rukh Khan and Vicky Kaushal. He even touched SRK’s feet before accepting the award.
Before calling him on stage, Shah Rukh and Vicky spoke about children carrying forward their parents’ legacy. Addressing Karan as his “brother, friend, and my partner in good times and in bad too,” Shah Rukh requested the audience to give Karan a loud round of applause.
Vicky added, “Today IIFA honours Karan Johar for completing 25 years in the Indian film industry and creating a legacy.”
A stunned Karan stepped onto the stage and hugged Vicky. He then moved to meet SRK, playfully touching his feet and hugging him too before giving his acceptance speech.
Karan Johar took the director’s chair in 1998 for the Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji-starrer Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The film won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
The filmmaker has delivered several hits during his career, including films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), My Name Is Khan (2010), Student of the Year (2012), and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). His last directorial film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, was released in 2023 and became a blockbuster hit.
